Hey people! I haven't finished the show yet. But, when I do, I will most likely dive into the comics. The thing is, I guess I should follow the comics in seasonal order? Are there any spin-offs? What is this 'Boom!' comics and should I read them? Also, will there be a season 13?

I'd advise finishing the shows first before getting too much info on the comics. Less spoilers the better.

On the other hand, the comics contradict the show. Even Joss has claimed her "forgot" something that was supposed to be huge. (Obviously I can't give examples without spoiling both.)

I personally consider them separate universes (similar to how X-Men in the comics and the movies are different universes, but more so) and am baffled at how some think they mesh together so well.

At least Dark Horse had roughly the same characters, though. BOOM just shows complete strangers with characters of the show stapled to their forms, and about the only thing they have in common with the series is the hair color (and sometimes not even that). Even the early issues of BOOM which I thought had promise made me wonder, "Is this really a Hellmouth where everyone is so open, trusting, friendly, and pleasant?"

I made this a while back. This is all of the official canon material.

The BOOM comics are kind of interesting concept-wise but the execution seems to leave a lot to be desired. I'd stay away from them and do the Dark Horse comics because they started out in 2007 as a legitimate continuation of the series. I personally really loved Seasons 8 of Buffy; many think it was too out there and extreme but it's BTVS we're talking about- anything could happen and when in comic form, really anything could happen so I think considering the writers had no limitations, it really wasn't as crazy as some might have you believe. Season 9 was okay but Season 9 Angel + Faith was really great. I only made it like halfway through Season 10 so I still have to finish that along with seasons 11 + 12. I believe season 12 was the end of it which is perfect.

I'd say everything is worth a read, but be prepared for the fact something's just will not be a perfect series fit.

Booms stuff is also interesting but yeah they are their own continuity not to be mistaken at all for the show or even the dark horse comics
