As a Bangel, how do you feel about the inevitable Spuffy ILY?

Saw this on tumblr today and it made me think of our previous conversations re Spike’s lack of suffering/living with his soul. Angel is saying exactly what I feel here...

The basement represents many things, primarily the subconscious and the underworld. On Supernatural a character said, "The attic is still better than the basement" when talking about Heaven.

Angel = literal Hell
Spike = metaphorical Hell

It reminds me that in No Future For You Faith thought Heaven is for chumps and that soaking in a bathtub is real Heaven. I was internally screaming since poor Buffy was ripped out of literal Heaven.

I dunno... you saw how bad Angel got with the First jabbering in his ears for a few hours. A few weeks had to have been really bad.

I don't think he was in the basement for that long, presumably thats when the First first got a hold of him. Presumably. Why he opted to go hang out in the basement of the high school like a creeper does lead one to believe maybe the First led him there though. or he's just a creeper. But nothing shown in the show indicates that he was a creeper does it...

I thought he was in the basement because the First wanted him near the Hellmouth with all the demonic energies spewing out of it...

I don't think it was ever said. Or at least I don't recall it ever being said. In any case it doesn't make much sense. He didn't start killing people until he left the basement and the first wanted him killing people, why have him lamenting in the basement?

People in deteriorating mental states tend to seeks shelters where they'll feel safe, so I always assumed he was in the basement because he felt safe there, by his then kind of crazy standards. Though one would also assume that they'd seek shelter where they feel comfortable, so technically it'd make more sense for Spike to be holed up in the bottom of his crypt, where he'd have a sense of familiarity. So I guess one could view it as The First wanted him in the basement and got him there, but it was crazy-Spike's nesting/need for a safe place that kept him there, lamenting.

That said, I feel like maybe this is starting to drift off topic.

But it still doesn't make sense as the First wanted him out and galavanting around and it was stated that part of Spike problem was he was holed up in the basement near the First. Well if you're gonna use logic and all that... can't we just say that the First was a dumb villain who couldn't do anything right and therefore like the symmetry of starting the show in a high school and then ending it in a high school?

No, the first was a great villain... it was just handled poorly.

Does it really matter if Buffy says "I love you" to Spike? I mean, from a Bangel POV (I can't get onboard with someone telling their abuser "I love you" but that's a completely different conversation). But, as a Bangel, I don't care who Buffy falls for or says "I love you" to, because canonly we know that Buffy will never love anyone as much as she loves Angel ("I loved him more than I will ever love anything in this life") and that when she pictures her future she still sees Angel ("I do, sometimes. Think that far ahead. It'll be a long time coming") and that, given the choice, Buffy would be with Angel in a heartbeat.

Buffy and Angel have endgame status, even without being endgame. They have soulmate status. They have proven, time and again, that they will never stop wanting one another, but have also accepted that, for now, they can't be together, and so it would be natural for them to turn to and fall for other people. If Buffy does say "I love you" to Spike that doesn't (and shouldn't) detract from Bangel in any way.

You guys know I don't read the comics but sometimes things stew in my mind regardless, so I'm curious. (Also I don't wanna stew alone... 🙁)

But in all reality. Of course I would be heart broken BUT, at least at that point I would have closure. Absolute closure. I would know that the only way that my OTP would live on would be on fan fic and I would probably just stick to that rather than read the comics. It's like a bandaid. Pull it off fast and it hurts a ton at first but you get over it. I think right now the writers are pulling the bandaid off EXTREMELY slowly... those bastards.

That kind of Spuffy fanfiction nonsense would merely be the final nail in the coffin of my respect for the comics. I've been living in my own Buffy/Angel post-"Chosen"/NFA timeline for the entire time the comics have been coming out, and that's where I intend to stay. (With occasional vacations in "Project Paranormal," which is excellent.)

I wouldn't mind Bangel deciding that they missed their moment and move on. I've never thought the ship was going to be endgame and I kind of like it that way.

I would 100% mind Buffy ending up with Spike though. I have always hated their story and I would hate it being Buffy's endgame, as a character. It would make me look back on s5 to 7 with a lot more resentment.

I was wondering how to get a hold of the author/website person for project paranormal. I see a bunch of weird symbols and it distracts me from trying to read the stories. I'm very easily distracted. Any clue who I would contact? Its for all of the apostrophes, there is like a letter S.

Buffy and Angel not ending up together, fine. Unless Angel is human I don't really want them to end up together anyway - the human + vampire romances have their limitations and appeal. Which I learned in Btvs s3, and I wish Buffy would've learned then too instead of staying a regressed teenaged state.

Buffy ending up with Spike. Not fine. I tried but gave up on the comics and the Spuffiness of it all just makes me think that they'll go down with this Spuffy ship, despite - in my mind - it costing them a lot of readers. It's like the decreasing viewership of season 6-7 all over again. The fandom isn't all about Spike, I wish they'd get that and start making Buffy an interesting character again.

Given the way Angel has been handled in the comics, I think I would prefer him dying to trying to get through that kind of arc, which would probably be written in a way that was completely rage-inducing. I think I could only accept that kind of ending if Joss wrote it himself.
