What a shocker, I pick Bangel.
Bangel- I've explained on the Angel shipping forum why I love this couple so much. It had to do with their instant connection due to their lost souls. They both want normalcy, but can never have it. She's human but also not human because of the slayer thing. He is human but also not human since he is the only vampire with a soul at this time. They have a fundamental understanding of each other. They are both champions and both failures. Their love is mutual, compassionate, passionate, intense, understanding, and that just adds up to epic in my book. But, their love for each other does not blind them from their mission which is one of the most important aspects of Bangel. She killed him when she had to in order to save the world even though it nearly broke her. Angel told her to go home when he was trying to help Faith by helping her find her soul again. They both knew the mission was the most important thing. For some reason I feel like Buffy sometimes forgets this when she is with Spike. Another point on Bangel is they knew that they had to let each other go even if they didn't want to. I feel like Bangel gets a bad wrap for being an immature high school puppy love, but I would like to contest it with the fact that what is more mature than letting someone you love more than anything in this life go for their own well-being and for the greater good of humanity? I'm not sure if anything is. They loved each other enough and were devoted to their missions enough to let each other go.
Spuffy- Hey for what it was, it was just fine. After coming back from the dead, a little hate sex seemed to be what Buffy needed. But that's all it was for me and for her until the writers tried to make Spuffy more than it should have been. I don't think they did this in the show, but from what I've read on here about the comics it sounds like they did. So with just taking the show into consideration, I don't contest Spuffy as much as some other Bangel shippers. I think it had a time and a place. The stalking and obsession and buffbot was really disturbing and turned me off from them right from the start. I didn't mind the s6 dynamic as much as others do, I felt like it made sense for the state Buffy was in. But, then it just got too violent and once again I was turned off by it. Then in s7 I appreciated their honest friendship. But, I just don't feel like Buffy was ever in love with Spike. And honestly, I'm not sure if Spike was ever in love with Buffy or if it was just some weird sick obsession that he twisted into thinking it was love. Maybe a part of him loved her, but can obsession ever really be love? I personally don't think it can.
