A little fun challenge for everyone for this year.

You can read any book, except any Buffy/Angel novels, graphic novels, comics or fanfiction.

They don't have to be done in order, and there's no set time limit. 12 was just a good number to do!

  1. California (set somewhere in the state)
  2. Vampire (any book containing vampires)
  3. High school (set in a high school)
  4. Victorian England (the land of Spike and Drusilla)
  5. Female hero (any book that has the main hero a female)
  6. Powerless (someone that had power but loses it in the book)
  7. Angel (Angel in the title)
  8. Death of a partner ( book where the main characters partner dies)
  9. Lawyers ( book featuring lawyers)
  10. Visions ( someone has visions or is a seer)
  11. Memory loss ( someone has temporary or permanent memory loss)
  12. Birthday ( a birthday is celebrated in the book)
So what are you reading and for what challenge?

I really think it is unfair not to include fanfic as long as they are book length.some are better than published books
The next book on my reading list is Legends & Lattes by Travis Baldree, which works for female hero, albeit an orc hero. Okay, I technically read a lot of short books, and currently a longer original work from AO3, that kind of work for that...

I'm reading a book called Reboot, by Justin Taylor. It might qualify for a couple categories. It takes place partially in California, and a character played a "half-vampire" on a TV show. (I'm not sure how someone could be a half-vampire, but that's how it's described.)

Dhampir is the more usual term, a child of a vampire and a human.
My last book had a law professor, but I didn't like the book so I'm definitely not counting it!

I finished Legends & Lattes last night, which will do me for number 5. A cute little book. I am not sure which I will do next.

The Honey Witch by Sydney J Shields will do for number 12. A birthday is celebrated, and it's a reasonably big deal in story.

1,12, 5, 8 & 9 already done. no fair no fanfic as i read a lot of it.

1 &12 - PS I hate you - Lauren Connolly
5 - Audrey Lane Stirs the pot. Alexis Hall
8 & 9 - The president is missing. James Patterson

I have already read way more than 12 books including non-fiction and *not* including several book length fanfics which contain vampires, Angel (not in title), visions, memory loss & powerlessness at minimum. Counts for me if not challenge.

I am unlikely to read any book with Angel in the title as the kinds of books i read rarely include Angels in any capacity (either spiritual or profane).

I also rarely read anything not Buffy fanfic that contains vampires as i dont care for vampire fiction as a genre. I basically like (love) Buffy and (a little bit) Blade - the movie only.

I read many of the other categories last year so they could come up again.

Like to read books about a diverse set of people - race, religion, class, nationality (including country book is set in) and orientation. Doing well already.

How about Angel: A Maximum Ride Novel by James Patterson?
@NotASlayer - that is literally the only novel by james patterson i have ever read. I may read more tho' bc it was fun.

You could not pay me anything under 7 digits to read dan brown. For a million bucks sure.🤣

If I remember correctly, that's a series aimed more at children. There's also Angels and Demons by Dan Brown which is, well, a Dan Brown book.
@DeepBlueJoy fanfic is not a challenge, its to challenge you to read things you wouldn't usually read!

I have lots of books from the library that need reading and I'm in a slump and don't want to read any of them 😔

Murder at the Candlelit Cabaret by E.K. Cozy. The lead character has visions of the past, so that will do for 10.

I'm still in my reading slump, but aiming for a chapter a day, however I have multiple books started!

I'm guessing, as I'm avoiding spoilers, that Fourth Wing could count for 5? Once I get around to finishing it

I think so, though I have only heard of it from a review. A whole bunch of my recent ones count for 5; I seem to be on a cosy fantasy kick at the moment after my hard SF one, and they all have female heroes. Most of them are sapphic too.

I'm currently reading Kathy Burke's autobiography "A Mind of My Own" so I reckon that counts under no. 5 😉

Just saw this.

I just finished Clash of Kings (George RR Martin) so I will qualify 10 for Bran’s visions.

Currently reading Crown of Midnight (Sarah J. Maas) so I’ll qualify 5 for Celaena being the female hero of the book. 🫶

The Curse of the Comatose Five by E.K. Cozy. Someone lost their ability to use magic, so that will do for number 6.

11. Bright Young Women by Jessica Knoll
Fictionalized version of the Ted Bundy FSU attacks (the killer is only referred to as "The Defendant" in this novel). One of the victims had memory loss following the attack. Memory and trust of memory is a key player in the book, as well, particuarly in regards to how the female lead is treated by investigators and her memory of the attack.
