Buffy + WandaVision [WandaVision Spoilers!]

Am I the only one blown away by this show? And I've been mostly unimpressed by a lot of the Marvel content released in the last several years (Civil War, Infinity War, and Endgame were all hugely disappointing for me), but WandaVision is just fantastic!

As with everything I ever watch, I'm always checking for parallels to BtVS. Obviously Emma is in it, and her character is similar to Anya in her lack of empathy but opposite her in her refinedness and understanding of how to behave.

And of course Willow's the natural comparison to Wanda as a fellow uber-powerful W-named red-headed witch. I don't think it's crazy to assume that comic book Scarlet Witch served as inspiration for Willow in the later seasons, and that Willow probably served as some sort of inspiration for Wanda in this series. I thought they looked so much alike in this last episode, somehow. Wanda has dark hair in the comics so the red is always jarring to me anyways.

Notably both Willow and Wanda have a VERY hard time dealing with the deaths of their respective soulmates. If Wanda's insane, Willow was at least on the brink for a second there in Season 6. Both have a hard time controlling their powers, use them carelessly to improve their own lives without thinking of others, use them without meaning to, etc. Both specifically use their powers to control the minds of others (especially their soulmates) in order to improve their own lives and ignore problems in the real world. Both feel guilty about murders they committed, and both have metaphorical blood on their hands. Of course, Wanda has way more power than Willow (at least than TV Willow, if I recall comics Willow can all but warp reality, too), and while Wanda's reaction to loss (after vengeance, which they both displayed) is apparently escapism, Willow's was to destroy the whole world.

The footage of Wanda breaking into the facility to steal Vision's body reminded me so much of Willow breaking into the prison to get to Andrew and Jonathan.

Vision also gives huge Giles vibes and I think Paul Bettany's voice is so similar to Tony Head's that if I close my eyes I can almost imagine it's him! Vision and Giles are both such dorks.

Anyways, let's discuss WandaVision as it relates Buffy OR just WandaVision 'cause I gotta talk about it. And in honor of the big reveal this ep (that I think many of us saw coming), let's not forget the little reference to Agatha Harkness the Buffy writers stuck into 7x01 "Lessons". Maybe Willow's teacher wasn't so great after all... 😂

Yes, I love WandaVision. *Wanda Vision, wa wandavision* Love the theme music in this show. I love all MCU movies, I've very excited to get some new movies, but WandaVision is so good. I've loved the character of Wanda since Age of Ultron (that's right I like Age of Ultron!), So I'm glad to see her front and center. I think both Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany are killing it acting wise here. They are so good. I love the inclusion of other Marvel side characters like Darcy, Agent Jimmy Woo and Monica Rambeau. It doesn't really remind me of Buffy,

Except the reveal of Agnes as Agatha Harkness, reminded me a little of Dark Willow

I guess I forgot. I don't remember this reference. And I'm not sure it's referencing Agatha Harkness from the comics cause I doubt Giles would know who that is.

I've skimmed over the post because I haven't seen WV6 yet but I knew the reference in Lessons was to the comics. I'd never bothered to check Agatha's story so I'm intrigued by your remark. Re Giles. I find the England scene really interesting - really uncanny. Initially, I read it simply as Giles trying to help Willow but then wondered whether there was a "predator/prey" thing going on. The cinematography is...odd.

Oh god, I love this show; I can't wait for the last two episodes but I also don't want it to be over. Every episode has been great, though I'd say that right now my favorite is either 4 or 5. I don't know about parallels to Buffy, I'm so submerged in the MCU that I can't see anything else when I'm watching it, but it's just a great show!

And how catchy is that new song? 😀

I am a MASSIVE Marvel fan! I have watched all of them, read the comics (didn't like the comics too much though) and practically grown up with them. Wanda is one of my favourite characters so when I heard there was a Wandavision coming out, I couldn't wait. I got super excited when I saw Emma in it too, and as you said her character is strangely like Anya haha. I do really feel for Wanda, it goes to show how much she loves Vision but also, we see a side of her that we don't often see, she is really emotional!

I can't wait till next Friday when the show is next aired, it was Agatha all along??? I can't believe it! Maybe it was Agnes...or perhaps it's just Wanda trying to find someone else to blame for all this...

Not that Giles is referencing comic books -- the Buffy writers threw it in as a reference for fans who happened to read them, just using the same name. Agatha Harkness was Wanda's "teacher" in the comics too, I think the writers just thought it was a cute easter egg haha. It could be a coincidence, but I'm pretty sure it was a cute little shoutout 'cause Joss was a big comic fan. I think I read about the reference somewhere years ago too, maybe when AoU was coming out.

Oh, it's definitely not ALL Agatha. She's clearly using Wanda somehow. I hope they don't completely take the blame from Wanda -- maybe you're right and she brought in Agatha because she was starting to feel guilty, and could pass off the blame? That sounds totally like something she and the show would do. How can I wait till next week???

I think that Wanda is being manipulated, which doesn't remove all the blame from her, either. She keeps saying that she doesn't know how this whole thing began and I think that's a hint that someone else put her there and took advantage of her grief and bad mood. *whispers Mephisto to myself* I wonder who it could be, though...
