Discussion of 6.08 "Tabula Rasa" - Aired 11/13/01 (UPN-US)

Oh god this is nearly as bad as Something Blue. Extremely overrated and very unfunny.

I don't think either are bad. Just overrated. Prefer this till Something Blue.
There's a very interesting essay which frames my perspective on the two ensouled vampires called The Code of the Whedonverse: The Elect and the Damned and it uses Briggs-Myers to differentiate the two ensouled vampires. All Angel values thinking, sensing, judging are rational and all Spike's feeling, intuition and percieving are instinctive. To me it makes sense of why a lot of fans gravitate to one above the other and are often vicious doing down the other it's to do the valving one above the other and it's a false valuation.

Wow, thats fascinating and definitely has some truth to it!
I just rewatched this episode, the part when they are without their memories has some of the best moments in the entire show, the only real downside is that this is where Spuffy begins.

My favorite has to be Xander begging the vampire not to kill him, it was so Xander.

Huh, my own Tabula Rasa moment...I remember Xander luring vampires so others could get away (and THAT'S so Xander). Guess it's time for a rewatch.

I love when the vampires break into the Magic Box and they’re all running around screaming 😂

Including the vampire with them.

I love how nothing really changes about anyone's personality or relationships, even though they have no clue who they are...except Anya and Giles 😆.

I'm rewatching the 1984 Firestarter movie and saw where Andy tells Joan to go inside and forget the now blind agents of the Shop. So Joan, blonde, goes back inside, forgeting what's outside (and who knows, in the movie version, if the push works like in the book, maybe she ended up forgeting her entire life!).

I can't help but wonder if this is why Buffy, who can't remember who she is in this ep, feels that she's a Joan (especially as there are 2 vampires just outside, just as there were 2 Shop agents who Joan might notice after forgeting them). 😀

Honestly the funniest episode of the whole show for me. The show has a lot of funny moments, but Joan and Randy are hilarious start to finish. Some absolutely amazing jokes too. “Spikes?” 😂

I think the only thing I don’t love about this one is that it’s kind of a cheap way to get out of the narrative consequences of OMWF. Also Willow just pulls like a horrible butthole move, but that’s a problem S6 has in spades

I haven't done my rewatch of Buffy yet, but for some reason a bit from this episode just popped into my head the other day when I was at work and I started laughing. It was when Randy says "take your damn Spikes" LOL. I don't know why I thought of it, but it just made me laugh.

Tara and Willow breaking up. I guess they will need to remove Amber from the opening credits….oh wait

Well, she's still a supporting character even if she's not with Willow anymore.
I was shocked to discover that Enya is an actual name.

At a university open day there was someone called Enya sitting next to someone called Edelweiss and I thought of this episode. Lol I told @Bop and she didnt get the reference to it at first.

One of Ireland's most famous singers is Enya. Since Irish Gaelic has no j, k, q, v, w, x, y, z, Enya is spelled Eithne in Irish.

I love this episode another favorite that's just fun, silly and yes sad too. I love Randy Giles, and that outfit Spike was wearing. Anya thinking she ND Giles were engaged, the way she called him Rupey and that Kiss they shared, ooh. I love how Buffy picked the name Joan, saying it was strong and when she spiked a vampire saying she was a super hero. The sad parts Tara breaking up with Willow, it hurt watching as did Giles leaving for the second time.
