Also, with this idea why would a vampire ever feel enough about a person to turn them besides wanting lackeys?

Yes, but if you are trying to write a consistently written vampire, they should be your jester, they do everything for you, you give the minimum in return. I think What We Do In Shadows (TV) depicts this relationship well. In the end, they are just using people.

Do they? We don't see familiars in the Buffy verse. We see minion production, we see cursing people, we see bizarre art projects. Vampires can be reasoned with, they can be manipulated. Devils should be liars and cheats, but if you box them in with a perfect contract, they should honor it without fail, after all, nothing you could want is of any real consequence to them, and your soul is the only thing of real value that you have.

Spike seems to be Dru wanting more than a lackey, James and Elizabeth seem that way. That they were a couple or something and whichever was turned first turned the other
