In the scene in Season 4 "Who Are You" where Faith is flirting (sort of) with Spike in Buffy's body, do you think it affected Spike's feelings for actual Buffy (i.e. made them begin to develop)? Since he didn't know it wasn't actually Buffy until later on?
Just an interesting thought I had.

I don't know if that was the intention of the writers within the context of the story, but James has said on several occasions that, from their first scene together in "School Hard," he made a conscious effort to portray Spike as having a very strong, predatory, sexual interest in Buffy. That might have been the source of his line in "Smashed," "I always knew that the only thing better than killing a Slayer would be..."

Oh okay, I didn't know that about James Marsters, I guess I ought to watch more interiews 😛 I love finding out when actors purposefully portray certain subtext.

I think it had to. I mean, I'm not a bloke and I'm certainly not a vampire (despite the rumours!), but if I had an interest in the slayer, and she was blonde and gorgeous but kept me at a distance because I was evil, and then the next minute she's flirting with me and giving me the suggestive come hithers..... it's definitely perk my interest and it might make me a little bit more interested than I was prior to that event occurring..... 😉

So the question becomes was Spike interested in the actual Buffy or was he interested in Faith when she was masquerading as Buffy which then transferred onto actual Buffy?

Don't think he even knew that Faith existed at that point, let alone that she had body swapped with Buffy. So as far as he could possibly have known he was
talking to Buffy, & was definitely intrigued by the sudden change in her attitude towards him.
So yes, I think Faith did have an effect on his feelings for Buffy.

I think during that scene was the first time that Spike actually looked turned on by Buffy...so yes, I think that time would have been sort of a turning point for him.

I do think it had an effect on his feelings for Buffy, but I think he liked her from the first moment he saw her in School Hard. The scene with Faith/Buffy just made him think she saw him as something other than just a vampire.

Alright so having recently just watched this episode--I dont think it was the first time spike and buffy were introduced which was in season 4 episode 9 when willow cast a spell making them "in love". I think that it made Spike feel attracted to Buffy in that moment and you can just feel the tension but I dont think and looking at their relationship in later seasons...it made them begin to develop, it was just a oh buffs hot feeling.

You can't unsee what you've seen, or put the cat back into the bag. When someone comes onto you strongly, for good or ill it's going to stick with you and affect how you see them and interact with them.

Absolutely. Who Spike actually developed the hots for was Faith. So who he actually wanted was Faith. Sad for him he ended up with the wrong woman. But it's the story of his life.

It clearly stuck with him, since he remembered when Faith came back in season 7. That was the first time that he thought Buffy was coming onto him, so maybe it gave him hope that he had a chance with the real Buffy.
