Hi all,

So as you know I'm doing a Ats rewatch and I'm at that point where Fred is inflatuated with Angel because he saved her in Pylea. This got me thinking. If Angel didn't have the complication of the curse and could have a normal relationshio, do you think him and Fred would be possible? If Angel developped feelings for Fred instead of Cordelia, do you think this couple would you like this couple together?

Let's discuss 🙂

Ps : je savais pas que tu parlais français :) heureux de voir un francophone de plus
I don't think Fred really loves Angel. I think at this time she saw her more like a damsel in destress than a princess and she saw Angel more like a heros than a prince. So maybe she had a little crush on him but she wasn't in love with him, she was just thankful 🙂

Yeah she was more inflatuated than in love but I imagined what it would be like if their were actually in love instead of Cangel.

I don't think so because Angel he is already shy, lonely and withdrawn. I think he needs someone who helps him to socialize and at that time of the series Fred was too much "in her world" actually .. I do not really know how to explain it.

Think they work better as friends. It did annoy me that the writers seemed to ship Angel with just about every main female character on the show at one time or the other.

Haha yeah even Lilah and Eve got Angel love at some point!

IF and I say this with a big IF they would have developed it well I could have been on board. I’m not one of those people that think Angel needs someone to help him be extroverted. Many introverts are happy with who they are and don’t need their partner nagging them every day about being more outgoing.

I think that Fred and Angel have many similarities. Both lived in hell dimensions, felt isolated, both are kinda dorky, like reading. I wouldn’t have liked to see them in S3 because Buffy has just died/resurrected and I think Angel getting into a relationship right after this is strange. Maybe late S3... and then I want to see Fred come into her own, find her confidence, not be the damsel in distress before anything happened between them. If all elements were right I would not have been opposed. I liked how Fred helped Angel out with Connor and how she was always in tuned with his emotions but never demanded anything from him (see Cordy). But I also think when you are friends with someone for so long and nothing happens you get friend zoned and I think that is where they were by the time of her death.

But I don’t like Illyria and Angel.... no no no no. Do you hear me Angel comics?!?!

Wow I love your observation, thanks!
In the show they were making no, hypothetically if they were making the same show with multiple story lines , they would make a lovely couple. They would have a sweet, gentle romance , like Buffy & Angel without the danger , realistically in the same universe Angel would have to leave Fred for for her own good.

Fred would care for Angel the same way she comforted him in the cave when his inner demon was unleashed, she would bring out Angel's chivalrous side but also his innocence, on hand is so lovely because that is clearly something Angel would love so much and want but on the other hand the one thing he can not have. They would be really happy but clearly this is not the ending they were going with or he would have ended up with Buffy endgame.

That's exactly what I saw during my rewatch!
I didn't see any chemistry between Fred and Angel on the show and Fred seemed to put Angel on a pedestal. I can only think of one or two scenes with them alone together, so it's difficult to judge.

In the comics . . . well it's complicated, and it may end with Fred and Angel being in a romantic relationship and as long as it's written well then I think it could work.

I think Fred's crush on Angel was not real world enough. She needed to establish herself back in life and settle down again before being in a romantic relationship. But as Fred matures and comes into her own, I think her and Angel are really good friends who could have developed into something more. Still I think she's better off with Gunn, Wesley, or even Spike.

I just can't see Fred and Angel together in any way. On the show she had a crush on him but grew out of it quickly and they never had any romantic chemistry. Angel was protective of her (like he is with just about everyone), but more in a brotherly fashion. I can't see Angel's feelings about her ever changing significantly, especially after the epic tragic romance she had with Wesley. He's known her for so long that I think if it was nothing there during that time then it's really odd for it to develop so suddenly - unless... it's perhaps out of sheer melancholic loneliness? What's more they just don't look right together; standing next to each other as a couple it just looks strange.

In a way, they could pass for brother and sister. That is the Kind of chemistry, they have. A strong bond, but no romance.

@Priceless, I can see them together, Fred brings out his protective side while Angel is attracted to her innocence, that sounded gross the first time I heard it too but now I understand it in the sense that being with such a person would unleash his own ability to be a innocent in the world but I can not see them together long without Angel changing , for the better that is, the happier, which is not recognizable for the character, so its bittersweet the one thing he can never have.

But that doesn't make sense as a piece of character development - for both of them. Angel already kind of did the attraction to innocence thing with Buffy and has since learned a lot about human complexity. Fred grew into a strong and confident person who didn't see herself as a damsel that needed protecting but as part of a team (although Joss did kind of push her into the damsel role again with her death). If they didn't feel an attraction for those reasons when they first met then I don't see how it can develop that way now. 😕

Yes, I see your point about plausibility canonically where they are now, this is hypothetical in the other sense of the word I guess, about the characters as people in general and not a pitch for development along a specific season arc and I do not think Angel would make a go for Fred since he has been through that with Buffy but if by some miracle they ended up as a couple, I could see them working, for like the twerking of the script in Angel becomes human, perhaps before they meet or soon afterwards or just something along the lines of it becomes a completely different show (why it didn't happen) because Fred the character we know would change him to much but unsustainable hence I picture Fred and Angel as like Buffy and Angel in I Will Remember You.

Angel is very much attracted to innocence, newness. I don't just mean sexual innocence, but to innocence of nature and situation. I think one of the things that attracts him to Nina is that she is new to being a werewolf. Angel likes to be seen as the teacher. It was also there in some ways, with Cordy. As their relationship developed as he was helping her train to be a better demon fighter (the sword play/double entendre scene). If Angel can be the 'teacher' he's more likely to enter into that relationship. I think Fred and Angel could work if she is willing to allow him to take that teaching role, which she is appearing to do in the comics.

This is a ship where I have never thought about. In no way! It's a bit creepy to be honest 🙂
