Do you grow flowers, fruit or vegetables? Come join us on the ups and downs of growing your own.

I got a garden centre gift card for my birthday so thinking about treating myself to new tools. Mostly to help with the weeds!

I grow my own tomatoes. Easy enough if you have a sunny garden and don't live anywhere too cold. One plant probably gives you a handful of tomatoes a week in the summer with luck.

My blueberry bush has heaps of buds, so I hope that means heaps of berries when the time comes!

The poppies are flowering. The daffodils are just about done. The bluebells are almost here.

The spring onions are pretty much the only food thing growing at this time of year for me. Snails are feasting on everything else.

Spent an hour at the allotment today, before the rain came. Dug over the potato patch, did find a few small potatoes, but this year didn't go well.

A few more hours at the allotment today, more weeding done. Did pick some french beans too, which I wasn't expecting.

Had a robin come next to me, collecting the bug that I uncovered. It was in touching distance for a while, then I sneezed and scared it!

The more gardening I do, the more I understand why Adam and Eve chose to believe the serpent. I am over it!

Heaps of flowers in my garden right now. More Tulips than I have ever had too. They are pretty. More Iris' too. The fruit trees are ALL in flower right now, which is early and weird and they are all getting eaten by bugs. So Im not sure how the next lot of fruit will go. I fertilised them all on the full moon at great expense, so I hope its not for nothing.

I really, really have to mow the lawn but it has been too wet.

I got a refund on the spring bulbs I ordered, they didn't arrive and the email I sent bounced back. PayPal sorted it for me. I do have some bulbs to put in that I bought from the supermarket.

Also need to get my garlic put in.

Where do you use garlic for? Vampires? Kidding! For salads or sauces?
Garlic is in, only doing elephant garlic this time as regular didn't grow well last time.

Also trying some overwintering peas, but I'll sow more peas in the spring too so doesn't matter too much if these don't grow.

You are busy with it
So. Many. Weeds. I have been working ridiculously hard and its heating up, so its been hard yakka!

The shire ladies knocked on my door and warned me they saw a snake come in my yard while they were spraying. It was lovely of them to warn me, they didnt have to do that. I tried to make a LOT of noise after that, but I know even with 14 horses and hundreds of kids, snakes still hung around my old place. I try to encourage the big birds to stick around the yard, maybe they will be more of a deterrent. I have seen all my bobtails out enjoying the sun too.

Still so much to do. Tomorrow the missionaries are coming out to help fix a part of my leaking roof. I hope it wont be too hot. I am back to hand watering everything. I have lots of flowers, which is nice. Even my log suffering gerbera has a flower right now 🙂

I have a shed!!

Haven't painted it yet, need to decide on a colour, but I'm kinda thinking pastel colours.

But yeah also have a lot of weeds.

I was just looking at sheds but even the cheap wooden ones are not, well, cheap. At least new. And the non-wooden ones are several times more expensive.

I think the hardest part of buying a shed is delivery, if you know someone who have a large enough vehicle then there's loads if sheds for secondhand but it's dismantling and moving it that's the issue.

True, there is absolutely no way I would get a shed in my car, new or secondhand. I'd even struggle to fit the wood in to make one from scratch. But the husband of a friend is a builder with a Sprinter, so that makes it easier.

All of our sheds are made from tin, I was shocked you guys have wood sheds over there! The rot would set in and the termites would eat them here. Our tin is all sourced from the tip, so its pretty much free if you build it like that. That's how we made all the horse shelters and stables, all from offcuts of tin from the tip. Even my fences at home are made from tip bound junk.

My flowers are pretty and going well. The retic has been on for the fruit trees and the big trees on the highway side. Its raining today so I havent had to water yay, we even had a frost the other day which burned my hedges and then within a few days it was over 30C, so its really a hard place to garden in. Im doing ok and gotta be less hard on myself about it. The lawn looks great.

Yes, almost all of them are wood. Plastic looks like it might be a distant second, though that generally seems more common in tool stores that aren't big enough for people; I don't know if I have ever seen one made from metal. Perhaps at B&Q? They do rot, but most will last for years.
