Question Have you guys checked any of these "new Buffy" shows?

We all know Buffy changed television definitely and there is a lesson learned from her in every TV drama. However, I have never seen any other shows being compared to Buffy the Vampire Slayer as much as the recent Wynona Earpp and Warrior Nun. I actually started watching them due to such comparisons and Wynona is de facto more similar in many aspects than Nun, tbh. You'll definitely like them if you're a BtVS enthusiast.

It also happened to The Nine Lives of Chloe King in 2011, but it got cancelled before I could give it a chance... 😔 I just finished Once Upon A Time and the Buffyverse echoes were simply heartwarming (it's lovely how similar Buffy and Emma are).

Anyone else interested in these or other post-Buffy flicks? Which ones?
 
I've seen both WYnonna Earp & Warrior Nun. Both are mostly guilty pleasure kind've watches.
Honestly not even sure I'd even watch Earp if it wasn't for WayHaught. Their chemistry is off the charts! 💜
 
I got literally 15 minutes into the pilot for Wynonna Earp and then stopped, because of how bad it was; the acting, the writing, and then the final nail 15 minutes in was the first use of horrible CGI. If people compare it to Buffy, I didn't see it. Even all these years later, the Buffy pilot still remains strong and one of the best one-hour pilots out there, so it's not like it's remotely comparable.

I plan to watch Warrior Nun at some point, but have only seen a few images, not even a full trailer.

The pilot is especially weak. Watched and gave up. Then started hearing about WayHaught. Finally gave it another try like a year later. 😳
 
I've seen a few clips of Wynonna Earp and it doesn't look very clever. If someone could persuade me what the point of the show is and what it's trying to say, I might watch it. But from the outside it just looks like your standard teen show that lacks real depth.

I watched perhaps the first 2 or 3 episodes of Warrior Nun and it was terrible. There was nothing in the story or characters that appealed to me in any way and the writing was poor.

I did start to watch Once Upon A Time but it felt like an episode of a better show stretched over several seasons. Buffy would have had one 45 minute episode to tell the whole story and wrap it up, while this show took the one premise and just kept running with it. I thought it'd get dull quickly so stopped watching.

I realise I sound very negative, but I think Buffy has ruined me for shows 'like Buffy'. There is only Buffy for me and no other show could possibly compete.
 
While I'll agree that Wynonna Earp & Warrior Nun fall into guilty pleasure territory. I wouldn't necessarily say that Buffy ruined other shows for me. Now Buffy will always have a special place in my heart, but I doubt I'd even put Buffy in my top 25 shows! So, if anything, I could say that other shows have 'ruined' Buffy for me, but not really.

Once you fall for BtVS, you stay fallen :) Always number 1 for me, though there are some really great shows out there
I really enjoy the dialogue writing in Wynonna Earp . Personally I think the leading girl murders her role but the supporting cast is strong .

I get why people balk at Wynonna early on ...the core premise is more an early Supernatural rip than a Buffy clone . However I think they make a decent fist of some pretty dubious ideas .

I quite liked Wynonna Earp, mainly cos it took a different lean from what I'd seen before. Comparing it to Buffy is odd, like comparing Pomegranates with Watermelons. They are different shows with a different take on killing the evil dead.

I saw the actual unaired Buffy pilot and thought it was lame, partly due to Willow not being portrayed by Allyson Hannigan. The actual pilot shown on TV was quite poor, when Buffy left Fluties office until Xander held up what he thought was part of a really small fence I counted 16 failures of continuation. Like Wynonna Earp BTVS was different than other shows at the time and worth watching.

I'm actually interested what Puppet meant by the first CGI at 15 mins in. I saw many CGI moments during the first 15 mins. The guys with red eyes? Folk flying through the air? I'm guessing you might have been referring to the tongue bit, well I don't think that bit was not CGI.

I looked at a trailer for Warrior Nun, I found it to pathetic to watch all of the trailer.

I recently got into Wynonna Earp, it's basically a combination of good quipping, bad CGI, a lesbian relationship that developed very naturally and a lot of swear words and it's variants (at least from what I've seen so far, as I'm only on season 2).

I wouldn't be surprised if the creators watched Buffy since some elements do seem to be inspired by it.

I have not watched Warrior Nun so can't comment on that.

Good...well obviously not good per se but "good" in the sense you confirmed what I thought after episode one (which is as far as I got).

Same here. That said, BtVS never had a place in my heart - it kinda lodged itself in my head. I genuinely think it's one of the cleverest TV shows I've ever come across and I love it for that but I haven't watched it for entertainment since it first aired...and a lot of shows have flowed under the bridge since then.

Do we? Genuine question. I won't deny it had an impact but I think that's a huge overstatement that needs narrowing down to (perhaps) a particular genre or type of TV.
 
It makes me wonder what person with the inclination to wear Wally type clothes first compared Wynonna to Buffy?
 
This is not a new Buffy show, but a UK channel is repeating Sapphire and Steel and I vaguely remember it as a kid and loving it. Anyone else remember it? I vaguely remember a WWI story set on a train station . . .

I also remember The Tomorrow People very vaguely and am hopeful one day a channel will repeat those. John Mills in Quatermass was on recently and it was awful, but I am sure some people remember it fondly. Once you get rid of all your streaming services and are left with only the free channels, you find some real (old) diamonds.

Yeah i remember it ,made no sense but i loved it too.
Some episodes of The Tomorrow People can be seen online but it is nothing like Buffy, the John Mills Quatermass was adequately described by Priceless.
