How many of you are disappointed that Buffy reboot didn't happen?

I’m not at all disappointed that the reboot didn’t go through. I can see why Buffy fans would be disappointed, though that it didn’t get picked up by Hulu I wouldn't have watched it anyway as I never watch any reboot or remake at all. The reboot would’ve ruined Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s legacy so it’s better than it didn’t happen.
 
I'm not disappointed. If the reboot had happened, I would have given it a chance, though I doubt I would have rushed to subscribe to whatever it was streaming on, unless there was a lot of buzz about it on this site. But it would not have been more Buffy really, it would have been something new, so I didn't have much sense of anticipation about it.
 
Think was more disappointed in the first reboot being ditched before giving it a fair chance.
Was more surprised that this was cancelled since it seemed to have much more backing.

It is not exactly unknown for a pilot episode of a show that then goes on to be successful to be bad. Many shows have unaired pilots. Buffy and Angel have unaired pilots. They aren't unaired because they were good. I was reading something about the unaired pilot of The Big Bang Theory, and the writers stated the reason it wasn't any good wasn't because of casting issues - Penny was recast - but because what they wrote was just that bad. I doubt many old, successful shows would be given the go-ahead today based on their original pilots.
 
I'm not part of the "New Sunnydale had to be bad" crowd. I think staying away from the original characters was the only way they would be successful. I don't think there are nearly enough fans of the original to carry a new show.

I saw the leaked script and thought it was ok. Needed some work, but felt very Buffy-like. I loved the whole Vampire Weekend schtick.

Since I am not looking forward to New Sunnydale turning into a bad soap opera like original Buffy did, I am good with the underage lead. Focus on the horror-adventure-comedy. Not the boyfriends.

I don't know if New Sunnydale would have been good, but, in spite of all the hate, they appeared to be on the right track. And as SMG said at the Emmy's: "Now we'll never know".
 
I was on the fence about New Sunnydale, just because I haven't really seen many recent continuation/reboot shows of anything that I enjoyed. Even with the ones I did like, I don't enjoy 8-10 episode TV seasons, which is what this probably would have been. However, SMG being involved with it gave some hope.

That being said, I am disappointed it didn't pan out, if only for the way it probably would have revived the original Buffy for a younger generation of fans (like myself). Even if it hadn't been great, or if it had been axed after season 1 or 2 like most streaming shows are, people could have been like "hey, you should totally check out the show this was based on."

I have a suspicion that the reason it wasn't picked up didn't have anything to do with the script. I suspect that the creators wanted to make something Buffy-like, a, say, 20 episode or so series with standalone episodes and an overall arc, spread over much of a year, whilst Hulu wanted a bingeable 6-8 episode streaming series that was one story told over a very short period of time.

I would have been perfectly happy for the Slayers to evolve into an order of warrior nuns.

This is a funny comment because there was a cancelled Netflix show called Warrior Nun. And despite most of the characters being nuns, there was this unnecessary romantic subplot in the first season that was completely irrelevant and never mentioned again by the second.

Yeah... I have seen it. In the second season it started getting more about the relationship between Sister Beatrice - supposedly a nun! - and Ava. Which is why "warrior nun" was perhaps not the best term...

Supposedly - I'll believe it when it happens - they are planning a film (or more than one?) to tie things up.

There is this weird anime trope where they take the East Asian tropes regarding Buddhist monks and graft Western monastic imagery on them. I suppose it's like an inverse Mikado.

My understanding of Pilots for unsold series is that they are primarily made for executives and advertisers and are always awful. If Buffy 2 was picked up, whatever was made would likely be reshoot and re-eddited.

Definitely, the script that leaked is likely not what the pilot ultimately would have been.
For me it fell into the "I'll check it out because I'm curious" category. Worth a look, but I wasn't gung ho and am not heartbroken that it didn't happen.
 
I am sad we did not get a spinoff. I'm not sure I'm sad we didn't get the Hulu one... The new Sunnydale idea seemed like it negated the 'Hellmouth is closed' forever idea... So I found that very problematic. Also the seeming return to ONE slayer.

I would have liked to see most of the old cast in cameos kind of like how some of the original actors appeared in future trek iterations. Then, I would have wanted a new, spun off world that respected canon, but did not seek to recreate it, or revisit it excessively. particularly, as the actors have decades on them since the show ended. Sadly, there will be far fewer cameos, maybe none if they ever get around to it in the future.

I hope they don't EVER try to do a reboot. Hawaii 5-O and Magnum and MacGyver were more than enough. Although BSG was better than the original, most reboots have not been and I did not care much for the ending of BSG. I like originality.

We don't try to clone our families, we try to have new generations... Well, the Asgard tried cloning and it didn't work out so well for them! (it is a stargate joke, ignore me)

I hope we will have a new generation sometime in my life time. I hope it WON'T be post apocalyptic. We already have walking dead. I want to see SOME fun in the world. The original struck a good balance. World was in peril, laughter in the face of death was a requirement for making it through the day. I liked that.

I miss Buffy. I would like to have more Buffyverse. Not more of the same, but more of the continuity.
