Nicholas Brendon, ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ Star, Dies at 54

SMH here we go again. First Michelle now Nick. Sadly I’m not too surprised; he didn’t seem like the type that was going to live a very long life. Still very sad and I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt because I know how crazy addiction can make people and he was fighting demons for years with his stutter… he probably had a severe inferiority complex too regarding his resentment of David Boreanaz being the lead man. I don’t think David liked him very much and I could tell Nick felt very hurt, ashamed, ostracized etc at the 20 year reunion when he wasn’t invited to be with the majority of the cast for the photoshoot.. I think because David requested Nick not be.… R.I.P. Nicholas Brendon … we all rip on Xander but he wasn’t all bad. He gives perhaps the best line in the series with “what would Buffy do?” 🖤🥀

In between S2 and S3 theyd gotten into a fight that Joshua Jackson had to break up
It’s such a weird feeling that people who felt contemporaneous with me growing up keep passing. Nicholas has clearly been struggling for years, so at least he isn’t suffering any more. Glad he’s at peace.

James Van Der Beek hit me pretty hard too. Dawson's Creek defined my adolescence. I can't express how much that show meant to me. I lost my sister to cancer, so I know how awful it is.
My heart is broken.such a tragedy. Just because we knew it was coming does not make it less awful. Life can be so hard for some. The darkness got a hold and he never made it out. I know lots of people hated on him but sometimes life just doesn't work and the limelight only makes the struggle harder.
I wish his family healing. I hope we can keep his good memories alive.

Thank you for sharing Xander with us. I will carry his heart and laughter with me in memory of Nick.

You weren't special, you were extraordinary.

This song has been playing in my head sinxe I heard. I always associate Xander with country music so it fits for me. Hope it brings a bit of peace

Very sad news.
Nick Brendon was a very troubled man. I've been following Nick updates from time to time hoping that he could overcome his problems with mental health and addictions someday, but unfortunately problems kept mounting for him. It's so sad.

The only thing that comforts me somehow is knowing that, at least, he died peacefully.

RIP Nicholas Brendon.

I'm sympathetic to his mental health issues - up until a certain point. I've had a mixed reaction to his passing. When I first heard of his struggles I felt sorry for him and was hoping for his recovery from his struggles. Then I read of the specifics which left me deeply concerned, to say the least.

I'm not going to blast him now he's just passed away. It's a sad ending to his short life, and I feel for his family right now.

Know Xander gets a lot of hate, but I don't think it's warranted. I'll always be thankful to NB for his contributions to BTVS and for bringing Xander to life.

Didn't really keep up with him, but hope he'd turned a corner in the last few years? I'm unsure. One can only hope.

I can't condone what he did in any way but it is pretty clear he needed a lot of help years ago, and being in the public eye probably made things worse, and though this isn't a great surprise it's not really a great age to reach.
 
you know, they put out the story of how he was a college baseball player and one day just dropped his glove in the outfield and walked off to pursue acting and looking back that was more like a sign of instability rather than going after a dream
