"It: The Terror From Beyond Space" (1958) b&w 7/10

The second space ship to land on Mars (the first crash landed with only 1 survivor) They have a stowaway. It's mean, it's ugly, it's strong, and it's HUNGRY!!!

A favorite from my childhood, pure junk food for the minds of the kiddies, but it is a genuine treat to see a movie once again that can actually manage to qualify as "horror" without gallons of blood and tons of guts scattered all over the place. Sure, by today's standards, sort of primitive and cheesey, and they had to make use of shadows and chilling music rather than CGI, but, still, it's fun to look back at the old stuff once in awhile.

I LOVE old B movies.
Victor Frankenstein (2015) 8/10

Frankenstein is one of my favourite book, and although this movie is nothing like the book, it's still fun. Daniel Radcliffe is pretty much great in whatever he does, and James McAvoy makes a great mad scientist! The two play off of each other really well! The monster is disappointing, but that's not really the focus of the story so it's fine.
 
The Circle - 6.5/10- with Julie Benz. I rather liked it! Kept me engaged. Minus -3-4 points for the last two minutes however.

Good little movie, but not a fan of the ending either. I barely recognized JB in it!
Terminator Genisys - 5/10

Not completely rubbish, but still not great. Emilia Clarke is a good enough Sarah Conner (although not a patch on Linda Hamilton), Jai Courtney is a terrible Kyle Reese and they have NO chemistry whatsoever. Like seriously, we're supposed to believe he's madly in love with her after knowing her five minutes?!

Arnie is good fun though and his being there does sort of make sense, but otherwise the film is a bit of a jumbled mess.

Skynet. Judgement Day. Cyberdyne. John Conner. Yada yada yada. And I still don't get why they can't spell Genesis.

The Old Man and The Sea (1999 short film) - 8/10
Death on the Nile (1978) - 7.5/10
The VVitch: A New-England Folktale (2015) - 7/10
 
Salt - 8/10
Perhaps the last big movie in history that's about fighting Soviet Union enemies. The fighting sequence is very satisfying.

Recent movies: Does the villain have family and kids? Was he influenced by the environment so that it's not his fault? Did he do the bad things because of capitalism unfairness? Yes, he's taking a city of people as hostages, but I can't kill him because if so I would sink to his level. I would rather let the hostages die because that's not in my hands. Blah blah blah.

Salt: This organization intentionally murdered my husband. So I will shoot everyone in this organization to death, no matter what motivation or background they have. And I will escape trials and suffer no consequences because I did nothing wrong.

Yeah. I think Salt's way of thinking is better.

I've always wanted to check this out, just because I do think Jolie would make a fairly convincing action star, and its always interesting when put females in what nine times out of ten are male parts.
 
Are You Here (2013) - 6/10

Good cast, shaky story that loses its direction a bit, definitely not the classic comedy you would expect from these actors (Wilson, Galifianakis, Poehler), much more subtle and thought provoking. Written and directed by Matthew Weiner (Mad Men/The Sopranos) so those silent thinking parts using visuals to show the character's thoughts are all over it. Probably wouldn't watch it again but it was okay for what it was trying to achieve.
 
Mockingjay pt2 (finally) - meh. 6/10
I will forever complain that this should have been one movie, it did not need two and it shows because there's a lot of time that just seems to drag it out.
It is however a lot better now that you can see both movies, one without the other is really just half a movie and sucks. They've also made some odd choices that I think drag the whole of the movies down a lot.

So generally, it's not terrible, but it's excitement free, stumbles forward and while I know the love triangle is there in the books it just kind of doesn't work on screen. There is no tension in it at all. By this time it also feels like Jennifer Lawrence has kind of left behind any commitment to the role and she spends most of her time with a blank look on her face, seemingly wishing she was somewhere else.

And gosh darn Effie Trinket. Why is she around all the time? She has no purpose and she's utterly disinteresting. Why are we supposed to think that she would ever help the rebels? Yes she likes Katniss and all but enough to give up her comfy lifestyle... pffft, someone just likes Elisabeth Banks, and it shows and it's a real shame because she really brings the movie down by just being there.

Even given the cinematic nature of those shows I think sometimes the cross over from Television to film can be a challenge. Plus wasn't he mostly a producer on them rather than writer/director? Good cast though, could have come up with a better title😉

I would go so far as to say that, as a middle aged Batman, somewhat weary of performing his duty and, dare we say, nearing the "past his prime" point, Affleck gives a new and quite welcome interpretation of the character. This is a man who has been fighting his war for a long time, and doing a damn good job of it. Then some fresh upstart comes along and attacks his methods and motivations? I don't really like this version of Superman, so maybe that's part of the problem, but I was on Batman's side all the way here, and I'm glad that he got first billing on the title. Us old codgers gotta stick together.

I thnk it should have been two movies, but I do think you could have cut some stuff and streamlined pt2 more, and make it shorter time wise. My biggest complaint is all the useless characters they have and the underuse of certain characters (Finnick! Johanna!). I also sort of feel that J. Law is a bit out of this movie. She has some good moments in the beginning but nothing like Mockingjay pt. 1. It's mostly a lack of comedic moments cause Haymitch isn't in the middle of the movie. I actually like that the movies gave Effie some character development, and I ship her and Haymitch! Woody Harleson said the kiss was improvised. lol. Overall it's still a good movie and doesn't hurt the franchise for me.

Yes, for streamlining, or at least re-arranging a bit:
a) Cut the 45 years of "free-Peeta" by running through corridors/stalling Snow scenes. These made me hate the entire movie industry and question why I ever bother going to the cinema at all.
b) Replace with: Katniss and Joanna training and bonding to be able to go on mission.
c) Remove everything Effie Trinket (lol, sorry about that one but her 'development' seemed like fanfiction to me) and replace with Katniss glam-squad being ill-treated by President Coin. She was too nice in the first movie.

Really though I think there's too little material in the book to justify two movies and I will resent it forever. Definitely won't buy either Mockingjay movie like I did with the first ones. These have left me with zero desire to ever see them again.

Interesting. I thought there was enough in the book for two movies, and I love Mockingjay 1. I think it's the best movie of all 4. I can understand your concerns though.
