Hey there! Long time no see. Just popping in to ask some questions for anyone who knows about the Buffyverse Dark Horse/IDW comics. So I have the Buffy and Angel classics collected in Buffy omnibus 1-7 and the Angel omnibus. And I have the Tales omnibus. I have recently finally completed my Buffy collection of seasons 8 to 12 (8-11 all in trade paperback and season 12 as a library edition), plus Fray. Now I'm looking to complete the Angel comics. My question is about the Angel IDW "season six" run, which has 44 issues (not including one shots).
I already have Angel season six volume 1 and volume 2. Volume 1 collects issues #1-12 and volume 2 collects issues #13-27. Now to complete this series it seems I need to buy "Angel: The End" which collects issues #28-44.
However, I saw a reddit post somewhere (can't find it right now) which was talking about which Buffyverse comics to read in what order and which ones to skip because they are really bad and they said that generally the "After the Fall" part of season six is good (which is collected in the volumes I already have but haven't read yet) and that person said to skip "The End" because it really sucks and they would only recommend it if it's about completing the collection for hardcore collectors but not if one is looking for a good story. And now I'm really torn if I should buy it or not.
I've got Angel & Faith season 9 (all tpbs), as well as the first two trade paperbacks of Angel & Faith season 10 (so I'm missing tpbs 3, 4 and 5 there) and I've got Angel season 11 (which apparently sucks too but well I got the library edition for free as a gift when I finished my internship at my local comic book store). This means (as far as I know) that once I've got "Angel: The End" to complete the IDW run and I find the last missing tpbs from Angel & Faith season 10, then I'll have completed collecting the Buffyverse Dark Horse/IDW series. I don't wanna start collecting the BOOM! Comics because starting a whole new "series" in an alternate universe means I'll never "be done", like I won't complete the comic collection and it's a lot of money already, so I'd prefer not getting into the multiverse and just sticking to the ones that are not set in an alternate universe, so the ones set within the Buffyverse tv-show universe/timeline, which as I understand it are the Dark Horse and IDW ones that I have listed. (Pls feel free to correct me/give me your advice on that too though or any thoughts you have!)
The thing is I really wanna buy the missing Angel & Faith season 10 trade paperbacks (3, 4, 5) because I definitely want to complete that collection because Angel & Faith crosses over with the Buffy comics (seasons 8-12) that I already have, so I wanna read them side by side. But the problem is that those tpbs are extremely hard to find and Idk how expensive they'll be if I ever find them and so I'm not sure if I should better save my money and wait for an at least semi good deal on those instead of "wasting" my money on the "Angel: The End" comic (currently looking at an offer that would cost me 198€) if that one actually sucks. As much as I really wanna complete my collection of in-universe Buffyverse comics, I feel like maybe I could leave this one out if it's not good because it is not somewhere in the middle of the Angel IDW run. Since I've got issues #1-27, I could just leave it at that and not get "The End" (issues #28-44), as long as it does not somehow tie into Buffy seasons 8-12, Angel & Faith seasons 9-10 and/or Angel season 11. Does anyone know if it does? And also as long as skipping "The End" (#28-44) doesn't leave the Angel IDW issues #1-27 completely unresolved like with a cliffhanger or something really important happens in "The End".
If anyone has read them/knows something about this, I'd really appreciate some insights or if you have an opinion on if that particular part of the comics sucks or not.
I also feel like not buying "The End" comic would not make my collection look incomplete on the shelf because the Angel season six volumes are numbered 1 and 2 and "The End" doesn't have a number on the spine even though it would technically be volume 3, so just in the back of my head I'd know there's technically something missing but it wouldn't look incomplete on the shelf which is also something that would just make me sad because I love arranging my Buffyverse collection on my shelf and the comics looking incomplete just bothers me which is also why I so desperately want the Angel & Faith season 10 tpbs.
Also, just visually: Does anyone know the height of "The End" hardcover compared to other Buffyverse comics? Because my Angel season six vol. 1 & 2 tpb fit so neatly with my Buffy season 8-12 and Angel & Faith tpbs that I have on the shelf as they're all pretty much the same height and then I have both the Buffy season 12 and Angel season 11 library edition on a seperate shelf because they're last in the chronology and their height is higher/taller(?). If I would place the Angel "The End" hardcover in the correct order of the chronology, so behind Angel season six vol. 1 & 2 and before the Fray and Buffy season 8 tpbs, it would disrupt the neat height of it all if that hardcover is higher than the tpbs. Does anyone know? This is not like a big deal, I'll probably find a nice way to arrange them but if anyone knows I'd be interested to know!
Also if that helps to give advice: My preferred way of collecting comics are trade paperbacks because they are thicker and look prettier on the shelf than single issues, but not as thick as hardcovers/library editions and I've noticed that in the few hardcovers/library editions I have, the pages easily come loose from the spine/binding which hasn't happened with any of my tpbs, so I prefer them. However, as far as I know the only collected way to get the Angel issues #28-44 would either be three thinner hardcovers ("Immortality for Dummies", "The Crown Prince Syndrome", "The Wolf, the Ram, and the Heart") (which I can rarely find anywhere and they're usually quite expensive) or by buying the "Angel: The End" comic which is also a hardcover just way thicker and my concern is that the pages there will also easily come loose from the spine as they do with my other thick hardcovers. I do believe buying "The End" will be easier to find/possibly cheaper than the three individual hardcovers though, so if I decide to get those stories at all this version seems to be my best option unless someone has other advice. With all of that background I'd just love to know if you'd recommend that I buy the Angel "The End" hardcover or not.
I told the seller who's selling "The End" comic I'd get back to her on Thursday, so I thought I'd get some input from all of you first (feel free to discuss further after Thursday though obviously).

No idea if @The Ferg is still active but you helped me so much back in 2018 with all of my comic questions when I felt so lost (which I'm still so grateful for!), so I thought I'd tag you in case you see this and have some thoughts 🙂
