Babylon 5 is so good. You need to get over the effects being dated and the sets being a little crappy, but the writing is top notch. Red Dwarf is basically a sitcom set on a spaceship. If you like sci-fi and you like British comedies, you'll enjoy it. Andromeda is pretty watchable, but there is a reason its number ten on the list, its good but there are better.

I see we like quite a few of the same shows.

Babylon 5 is let down by the CGI. Cutting edge for the time, probably, but looks like a computer game now. In comparison, the practical effects of DS9, out at the same time with similarities, have held up better.

No problem. And thanks. I agree. Farscape is rarely given the praise that it deserves. It's such a weird show at times, but in the best of ways. The creator, Rockne S. O'Bannon, is brilliant. SeaQuest DSV, Farscape, Alien Nation. All great shows.

Andromeda was developed based on ideas had by Gene Roddenberry (creator of Star Trek) prior to his death. His wife, Majoel Barrett, got it made, and I think it's pretty good (my favorite character is engineer Seamus Harper), but it does get a bit convoluted and experiences a drop in quality in the last season or two (four and five.)

Babylon 5 is a masterpiece. It's a slow burn. It builds to its crescendo over time. But it is worth the wait, and the characters really drive it (though I much prefer Captain Sheridan, who replaces Sinclair in season two.) Give it a go, if you have the patience.

Red Dwarf is on my list. I've never had the chance to watch more than a few minutes of it, but every single person who knows me well tells me I'd love it, so it's a must-watch for me at least.

I like Travis in the episodes that give him something to do, like the Horizon incident, or when he was visiting his family after his father's death, but unfortunately, for the bulk of the series, he is simply "Guy who flies the ship and asks occasional questions as audience surrogate." He's an interesting character, in theory. He was just never really allowed the room to grow. I don't find him annoying in the least, though.

I like Seven. She's just nowhere near the top of my list. Star Trek, across the five classic series, has more than seven hundred hours of stories and countless amazing female characters. I also passed on Guinan and Uhura, despite loving both characters, because they just didn't trump how much I enjoy these other characters.

I actually wanted to include Number One (Majel Barrett, The Cage / The Menagerie) as well, but she only appears in one story despite that story being told twice, the unaired pilot being reworked into The Menagerie. Despite that one appearance (no, I'm not counting Strange New Worlds), I really love her as a character, and I would have loved to see more of that crew (and no, I'm not counting Strange New Worlds.)

Janeway is actually my favorite Starfleet captain. Perhaps I should do my own ranking.
