What are you hate watching?

So, I finally decided to check out Star Trek: Picard. I'm a Trekkie, have been for ages, but I heard so many bad things about the show, I avoided it.

After sitting through a few episodes, I began wishing that my memory could be erased. What masochistic urge drove me to this? Nothing made sense, it was pure fan service, period. Having the TNG cast together again was a lovely idea, yes. But my God, they looked soooooooo old. None of them should've been anywhere near a starship. I don't know if Starfleet has a rest home, but all of them should've been there.

I ADORE Patrick Stewart, but he looked like he was about to die at any moment. And the rest of them didn't look much better. 🥺 Also, why the hell was Seven of Nine there? Who wrote this crap?

(I could rant a lot more, but it would take a few more paragraphs)

Edit: The only cool things here? Seeing John De Lancie (Q) again. He's such an amazing actor, just blows me away. Same with Michelle Forbes (Ro Lauren), she's such a treat to watch.

in my humble opinion i dont agree i thought it was awesome
Rewatching House of the Dragon S2 only for Rhaenyra, Oscar Tully, and the actual dragons. Caraxes, Vermithor and Vhagar... amazingly fierce (and moody) dragons. I love it when they eat people or set them on fire. Most Game of Thrones/House of the Dragon fans readily admit to being a bit bloodthirsty. I definitely am!

Daemon tripping balls at Harrenhall was even more mind numbing the second time around. Matt Smith is brilliant (as always!) but even he couldn't do much with those scenes. It was the Westerosi version of a hippie who took a lot of bad acid. 😅

I havent hate watched much. If i detest something i usually just stop or dont start. I gave up on game of thrones inspite of how well executed the meaningless mayhem was. And Outlander and the lovingly depicted rape fetish of the author just turned my stomach. Sometimes even 'high concept' fecal matter is still fecal matter.

Prolly the closest i got to hate watch was NCIS. The writing got so bad and i liked the characters less and less especially the lead who turned it into "his" personal show. I eventually weaned off after the nfa (ncis) fan site died and i no longer other had fans to keep me engaged.

Alone Australia. Its terrible this season. One dude just walked off. I am not sure if he was trying to seek asylum in Finland or if he was trying to eat a reindeer, but he got disqualified anyway. Another guy tried to catch fish by cutting skin off his feet and using it as bait. Three of the women left in fits of tears. Only one or two have caught enough fish to survive. Its basically a who can starve the longest contest, so of course the fattest dude is going to win it, thats if he can manage to do a poo and not get pulled for a bowel obstruction. Just no where near the level of the early US seasons. I will watch it out but I dont like it.

stuart fails to save the universe- till now 1 good episode, its a serie that you love or hate, they want to much, try to be funny when its not, stuart is not likeable as main character, so may things are wrong with this show, tbbt was 100 times better and stuart was great as side character not main, i will watch it till the end bit im not amused in any kind of way!

The news! I hate the way the big 3 networks news reports slants everything. (the wrong way)
me i just hate the news. Even when correctly reported. for this reason, i stopped watching and following nearly all news. Mostly i get my news from people who find stuff out.

It's somewhat strange and disheartening when I find I get a better explained and very unbiased report about things that happen in the U.S. from the BBC!
I'm sure it's because they are not in bed with that one twisted political party we have like our network news agencies are.

We had a chance to add Al Jazeera to our cable input and we took it. As expected, the news coverage was impartial even if it took them a little longer to get the news out. There is no catering to political parties. So far, it is the only impartial news service we know of.

Nearest I come to hate watching is watching a show that's not really my cup of tea because it has an actor I like in it. Watched a little of How I Met Your Mother recently. Really not my kind of show. But it was nice seeing Alyson in something else.

the x-files, watched it when nobody heard of it, then everybody watched it, i gave up,so im a trendsetter(lol) not a follower
I actually enjoyed the earlier seasons a lot. When they (sort of) replaced both Mulder and Scully... that was a bit much. The longer the series got in the tooth, the twister the teeth became... I really enjoy Gillian Anderson as an actor and she and David Duchovny played well off each other, though the drama far outlived the fun in the series for me. i only watched part of the last return, short though it was. Sometimes twisty and turny is fun, sometimes, it just makes you dizzy. I don't think it jumped the shark, so much as rode the sharks off into space... I loved the lone gunmen. Their trajectory broke my heart. Other than Stargate SG-1 and MASH and some of the law and order series, i can think of only a handful of shows that went past 10 seasons that were really good, consistent and enjoyable...

I loved Criminal Minds, but the last few seasons were less fun and less imaginative and I have quit following what they brought back as Evolution after the original series ended (and should have stayed dead, IMO)... b/c I can't believe in an 80 year old FBI agent and the rest of the supporting cast are also getting too old to be field agents and the writing is becoming more and more ridiculous. I could maybe buy them as real BAU agents (they mostly do research) but the TV's BAU is a field unit... It feels more like the actors like each other and it's a good job than that it's still a really good show (any enjoyment is from those interactions, more than from any original ideas). It's become more and more FBI fantasy than FBI procedural.... but people have a hard time letting go things they love, even after they're pretty much worn through.

Other than the Law and Order franchises that rotate people in and out as they would in an actual police force and legal offices, and thereby keep it relatively fresh, most shows really lose focus after 5-7 years. If they keep main cast, the senior cast are often bored and phoning it in and sometimes one person starts to dominate the show so it becomes THEIR series (which gets obnoxious, yes, NCIS, I'm looking at you and your terrible writing)... and if they don't keep the original cast, the loss of core cast, especially if it's most of them, really just guts the show b/c so many shows depend more on the beloved actors than the writing.

One rare show that really thrived after the (so called) core cast left was NYPD Blue... The pretty boys the network insisted on hiring left for their 'great successes' and the dumpy ordinary guy who actually looked like and sounded like a cop... got to have center stage and he was AMAZING as Andy Sipowitz. the credit goes to Dennis Franz (the actor) who was basically a first class character actor who became lead when the 'leading men' went off to try to 'leading man' elsewhere. In a very real way, NYPD blue was two different shows... years 1-6 and then 6-12. The 'everyman' version was far and away the more interesting version.

To come back to the X files... the show had a lot of good supporting characters, but it depended on Mulder and Scully to carry the series. That was both a strength and a fatal weakness. When they weren't available, the back up gang simply weren't able. Robert Patrick (who is very much a 'G man' type) is wrong for the (goofy, funny, but also smart and weird) Mulder role and his female lead simply was not memorable as a partner (i couldn't even remember the name of the actor who played Reyes until i looked her up). Gillian Anderson is a hard act to follow. I believe her as both physician and FBI agent. I don't even remember Annabelle Gish's back story. Add to that, the chemistry that the replacements did not have together. I remember not hating them, but I don't remember their time on the series well.

The main problem The X-Files had was it seemed like Chris Carter had this thought-out arc for the aliens... and he really didn't and didn't have a clue what he was doing. The MotW episodes usually ended up being better than the arc episodes.
