What toys did you play with as a kid?

The one i enjoyed the most for potential danger was the Gilbert chemistry set. I loved some of the cool colours things turned in reactions. But being truly crazed i had to see what was the worst thing i could do and so i made up my own combos, including once mixing some of everything. Sadly, nothing exploded and i am still here so the fumes must not have been so poisonous. I wonder what it took them to come up with a set that did not have any truly dangerous reactions.

I suspect some of what i mixed might have been poisonous if i had drunk them, but i was crazy, not sucidal! Also brown frothing smelly gunge was not my cuppa! For some reason.

Never had a slip and slide but friends did. And being from the third world, people improvised with random plastic. I suspect some still do. Cool water play in the tropics during summer holidays? Yes please!

i also played warfare with some cousins in a appleyard, that was awesome and i remember playing nfl with my playmobil figures, very funny.

Soft toys, like fluffy animals and teddy bears. It was always stuffed toys for me. I hated barbie and dolls. I always chopped their hair off and drew on their faces. The only dolly that survived me was a cabbage patch doll. I was not ever a fan of dolls at all.

I loved my soft animals. I had quite a collection 🙂 I loved arranging them on my bed, as if they were in a school photo. They all had names and personalities. My dad made me throw them out because I was "too old" for toys. I really regret that. My bunnies would have LOVED the soft toys. They used to kiss and cuddle any plush that I bought for them. My dogs would have loved those toys too, even if just to rip out the stuffing, they would have had a blast. Better than just ending up in the bin, as they did. I had to buy a new teddy bear to sleep with. I tried for years being a grown up and sleeping without one, but I missed it so decided I'd just buy a new one.

Despite being a horse girl, I never really had any horse toys. Nor really wanted them. I didnt see the point in plastic ponies.

I did really want a tamogotchi. I used to "babysit" them during lunch time for all my friends who had them. I was paid in snacks. We sometimes had maccas cheeseburger fundraisers where they would sell cheeseburgers for $1 each, and in one lunchtime I got 10 for looking after other peoples tamogotchis. I never had a tamogotchi of my own, but I still got to play with them at least.

I didn't have a ton of stuffed animals, but I did have some, and I always named mine, including a bunny I named Greg after the Seth Green television series Greg the Bunny (which I completely forgot about until this very moment.) When I got some as an adult, I still named them. I guess it's the human tendency towards anthropomorphism. Cars, computers, boats, stuffed animals. We'll treat anything like it's a person.

That's too bad. I don't get that. Stuffed animals can just be decoration, even if you're "too old for toys" (a concept I don't really agree with in principle to begin with.) I have Snoopy, Eyore, Asami Sato, Batman, and any number of figures and plushies in my house.

Nothing ungrownup about that from where I sit. Data from various studies suggests that between one in three and one in four adults sleep with a comfort object of one sort or another (a stuffed animal, body pillow, special blanket or pillow, etc.) It's not a fringe minority thing.
