Question What's the Best Film You've Ever Seen?

I just recently posted a thread asking everyone, "What's the Worst Film You've Ever Seen?" so I figure I should come full circle and ask, "What's the Best Film You've Ever Seen?" whether it be your favorite film, or a film that executed it's concept in an awesome, groundbreaking way, what is the best film you've ever seen?
 
My all time favorite film is Lady and the Tramp. Human film, though...I can't believe I'm saying this, but out of the many very worthy films I've watched and loved, I think Pirates of the Caribbean Curse of the Black Pearl is up there. You have to suspend disbelief in the supernatural, and there are many historical inaccuracies, but here is what it does well:

Tight storytelling that is perfectly paced, a memorable score well-matched to the content, it's believable in the context of pirate superstitions and pirate lore, memorable characters, lots of humor, nice visuals, an interesting romance, a satisfying conclusion.

I hate the other films in this franchise, but the first was based on an old story from the 50s, and I think it shows in the writing. It was one of those times when everything came together for something really good, and it's a nice movie for repeat viewings.

Black Pearl is a stunning piece of cinema and super underrate, imo!

This is the first movie I paid to see more than once in the cinema. It's also one of the very rare romances I liked.
The Shawshank Redemption, for sure. I saw it for the first time when I was 17 and it's been at the top of my list ever since (hint: I'm 32 now). Some other truly great ones are; Steel Magnolias (all-female cast, really empowering story), The Departed (brilliant thriller/drama), Captain America: The Winter Soldier (one of the best comic book films of all time), Groundhog Day (great comedy), to name a few.

My favourite film is Singing in the Rain - but I don't know if it's 'the best' I've ever seen, unfortunately the moment I read the question every single film I have ever seen flew out of my head and didn't want to play and all I can remember are Con Air and Frozen 2. Which is a random selection of films to say the least. Between Con Air and Frozen 2 - definitely Con Air. Frozen 2 was dreadful.
 
Not sure I could pick just one. There are films I watch over and over again and never get tired of them, such as The Silence of the Lambs, A Matter of Life and Death, The Ipcress File, The Great Escape, Groundhog Day, Mrs Miniver . . . too many to list!
 
I don't know there's so many great films. But one which is excellent is Signs (2002).

R.E.D. and Air America would be up there along with The Hunt for Red Oktober, Return of the Jedi, The Da Vinci Code and Raiders of the Lost Ark. All of these movies are great and none of them lose their appeal after repeated viewings. But I don't watch enough movies to be the definitive judge about these things.

I bought Raiders of the Lost Ark on DVD, then chucked it after I watched it, for your other choices though . .. .. .
RED is a great choice. As far as fun action films go, I'd add Die Hard and Con Air to that list, too. And I truly believe that '94s Independence Day is a work of cinematic art!
 
My opinions regarding films frequently change but I will try to compile a currently best films, as in I want everyone to watch these, list. 😀

  • Stalker (1979, dir. Andrei Tarkovsky)
  • Mulholland Drive (2001, dir. David Lynch)
  • Before Sunset (2004, dir. Richard Linklater)
and, of course, without a doubt:
  • Scooby Doo 2 (2004, dir. Raja Gosnell) 💯💯💯 <--- This is how you produce live action adaptations of cartoons!
 
In it's day I think the film that had the biggest effect on me was 'Star Wars' I saw it at the cinema the first day it showed in my little town & in those days it was easy to avoid spoilers. I still remember being stunned by the words 'A long time ago in a galaxy far far away' it was a SciFi, aren't they supposed to be in the future?
Then that little space ship comes over your head followed by the most enormous flying cheesewedge (The new surround sound made that bit awesome!)
I don't think I blinked for the entire film in case I missed something......

Being a SciFi fan brought up on shows like Dr Who & Blake's 7 with their cheap cardboard sets, Star Wars was light years ahead of anything I had ever seen before!

This is actually kind of hard, as "the best film you've ever seen" and "your favourite movie" are two separate topics...
I think I'd have to say my favourite movie of all time is 'Freaky', a horror-slasher-comedy starring Kathryn Newton and Vince Vaughn.
Then the best film I've seen would be 'Romeo + Juliet' (the one with Leonardo Dicaprio in it), not for any reason I can articulate, but just for the way it makes me feel when I watch it. I'm a sucker for heavy emotions that I can get myself lost in.
