Why Buffy sided with Spike in S7

I think Buffy just saw someone in need of help. Despite what Spike had done, she couldn't turn her back on someone who needed her assistance. The whole "he has a soul now", whilst probably did influence her, was also a way to justify her helping Spike to the scoobies who were quite hostile towards him for a while.

Buffy is a good person with a protective streak, if she sees someone in trouble, she's damn well sure going to help them regardless of what others think.

That Buffy would try to help Spike is one thing. But letting him run loose with a trigger was something else, as was being so dismissive of the justified concerns the Scoobies (and Potentials) had over that (thank goddess for plot armor).
