I haven't finished all the comics but...what? Why the hell would Xander get with Dawn. First Buffy has feelings for him and then him and Dawn get married or something? Joss Whedon doesn't make any sense, first you want a brother-sister/mentor-student relationship for Xander and Dawn in season 7 and now...? Should I pop a pill before I read these comics just to suspend my belief a little?
Did he leave another one at the altar? I'm lost...
I think Cordelia Chase would have the best opinion on this. Except she's dead, to quote Buffy.
I don't know. I remember it being Nicky's idea. Again, both are powerless, so maybe they bonded over that.
You know, it would have been funny if Cordelia, Faith, Wesley or Angel had a conversation about Dawn in A-2, like, to suggest they remembered her, and maybe even dropped a hint about her origins. Heck, Darla should remember her as well. You know, to reward people who watch both shows.

Why wouldn’t he ? Xander always had a thing for Buffy even when he was with Cordelia or Anya. Then Dawn grew up. He was unfortunately attracted to her in season 7 ‘Him’ (so was Willow though)… but by seasons 8-12 Dawn was an adult so what’s wrong with it ? she knew him when she was younger? She’s only about 5 years younger than Buffy (mentally/fake memory wise) but if she had to date someone who was her age, Dawn should’ve been dating a 2 year old in season 7. I kind of like Dawn & Xander together. He is very protective of her and again- it didn’t work out with Buffy maybe for him to actually be with Dawn in the end instead.
Does Xander being in love with Dawn prove that shes actually not just human? That she a demon or potential power? Since thats Xanders track record so far...
Except Xander got over Buffy, mostly after Prophecy Girl and the last time he even remotely mentioned her in that sort of manner was in The Freshman. Even when the two were essentially behaving like a married couple in S7, it was completely platonic. There is no evidence that Xander had real romantic feelings for Buffy after B, B & B.
The "You're extraordinary" speech from Season 7 shows that their relationship comes from a place of mutual respect. This may be the only happy couple (other than the Burkles) in the Jossverse. Since they were together in the comics, maybe Joss didn't write or approve that.
I think that they bonded over being the two normal ones in their group. I also think it would be hard for them to date outside the group because it’s kind of like trauma bonding I don’t think anyone outside their group will ever really get it.
I love them as individual characters but not together romantically. If Dawn were only a couple years younger than Buffy or if they had met when they were both adults I could get behind it.
With that said I do like that it’s explicitly shown that Xander has moved on from Buffy.

He still probably would’ve been romantic with her if she wanted it even if there’s no obvious evidence. And loving Buffy but eventually getting over/moving on is exactly what I’m saying as to why he probably would feel like Dawn is the next best thing - she is actually part of Buffy so
As much as a don’t like the pairing this is a weird accusation. Xander had a crush on Buffy, there is no textual evidence pointing to an obsession of any kind let alone one where he would want to posses her which is the kind of “love” that using Dawn as a stand in would suggest.
If "there's no obvious evidence" is proof of interest, that means literally everyone could be interested in everyone. What's actually shown is that Xander had a crush, got over it and moved on whilst still remaining friends.

It just gives me an icky feeling and I can't get behind it.
A lot of what Xander does later on makes no freaking sense. Like in season 7 when him and Dawn have this mentor/student relationship there was no prior evidence showing that Xander's even good at being a mentor. He just gives advice like "Buffy I know Riley literally cheated on you but you should just consider-" The show tells instead ofshows, regarding Xander. Prove it to me, show! Why is Xander suddenly this beacon for knowledge?
There's one scene where Dawn says 'he treats me like an adult'. Its ****ing weird that they would be romantically involved later on. And the fact that Xander gets annoyed when she stops having a teenage crush on him. And the fact that Joss Whedon wrote these comics! EW.
On the other hand, Spike actually cares for Dawn and saves her life on multiple occasions, despite the fact that I thought he only cared about Buffy. He actually does things to be considered Dawn's mentor, while Xander is just this pirate looking guy who gets with the girl...who he's known as a....child? That's like if Spike and Dawn get together. It feels icky!
And even if Xander is somehow a good mentor to Dawn in your eyes, that just makes it worse for me. A minor's mentor gets with her?!
I thought the One where Amy turns Buffy into a rat made it clear that Xander is still carrying a torch for her, but has resigned himself to her lack of interest?
NotASlayerB, B & B is the last episode where he shows any overt interest in Buffy, bar a throwaway comment in The Freshman. A somewhat tacky throwaway comment, but teens, eh?

Would Cordelia still take crap from Xander, is my question.
I haven't watched Angel so idk, but it would be horrible in terms of marketing and fan appeal if they got back together. People already hate Xander and a lot of people like Cordelia. Also it was high school, and their chemistry is nonexistent (in my opinion). She had more chemistry with that weird thirsty British dude.
Maybe but moving on when’s crush isn’t interested is healthy, which is what he did while remaining a good friend to her.

I’m not saying he used Dawn as a stand in for Buffy. Did you ever see ‘The Patriot’ movie? Mel Gibsons characters wife has died and he ends up falling for her sister/his sister in law … the aunt of his kids became their step mother in a weird way but it didn’t feel weird icky or gross it actually just felt like a natural organic evolution

Look I am radically opposed to pedos like I literally think they should get the death penalty; rape is the worst most evil thing humans do and to SA a child is beyond comprehension let alone justification. And I think joss is a pos; very egomaniacal and probably a lot darker than we remotely realize however obviously I love BtVS. That doesn’t mean I blindly support anything or anyone. Regarding Dawn and Xander, joss’s weird Pervy older man influence certainly could’ve influenced the storyline however it’s not like say Connor and Cordelia which was another level. Aside from the facts that Cordelia wasn’t even herself she was possessed and Dawn appeared out of nowhere, by the time we got to seasons 8-12 Dawn was literally legally an adult..it’s not like Xander changed Dawns diapers like Cordelia did Connor (not that it was even the real Cordelia who eventually slept with Connor). I understand the issue with minors and I always draw a strict distinction between adults and kids (that’s why I’m fervently opposed to transitioning minors “trans kids” bc their brains are still developing) but the time Dawn was grown, we need to stop acting like she was a child that Xander was preying on and taking advantage of.

Right but this is very much not the he is dating Dawn because she’s part of Buffy thus being the next best thing that I was refuting. They are two people who are in each other’s orbit.

Well, as I alluded to, Cordelia would have hung out with Dawn back in highschool. So, if she learned about the relationship, she would have the sharpest insights into it. But frankly, ATS Cordie isn't the same character. You know how Anya just becomes a quirky version of Emma's public persona? I mean, Anya is never said to be a Republican with a psych major... overtly, but still. Well, ATS Cordie's the same way. Not that different.
I'm rereading S8 now (join me in the issue specific threads?) and thankfully have not got to this part yet but I agree it's really ick that Xander is dating Dawn. It seemed like he saw her as a little sister, and now all the sudden she's a love interest? Yeah, no.
And in answer to your question, yeah it may take a pill and shot to get through it, lol. 😉

Oh okay so I guess Xanders eventual relationship with Dawn had nothing to do with Buffy.

That doesn't mean that it still isn't icky. Legally okay, but strange nonetheless. And in my opinion, it's one of the stupidest Buffyverse relationships.
Also you didn't need to bring up 'trans kids', because it doesn't have anything to do with pedophilia, but more so gender identity (and struggles with it at a young age).
I just personally don't like how Xander treats his girlfriends, but this time around I think somebody will actually hold him accountable. Buffy would kill him if he hurt Dawn.

I did need to bring up trans kids because I am passionate about that issue specifically because they are children and I think kids are off limits when it comes to sex (obviously) & if they aren’t old enough to consent to sex they aren’t old enough to consent to a sex change. and in defending Dawn and Xander- I want to make it extremely clear that I am passionately for the right of kids to be kids. Dawn however was not a child when she got with Xander. I feel like I have to defend Xander (even though I don’t particularly care for him) & Angel because everyone acts like they are pedo child predators…. As if Buffy & Dawn are helpless, easily influenced children who didn’t consent & the men didn’t truly love them. My uncle was 20 years older than my aunt but when you’re both adults nobody cares nor should they
