Piggybacking off @spikenbuffy ‘s post about Angel being attractive…

I definitely think Spike is attractive, which I’ve always found odd because he’s definitely not my physical type - I generally don’t go for blonde haired, blue eyed thin guys. I prefer tall, heavyset guys with dark features. I’m a straight woman.

However, I love how James plays Spike, and his confidence, personality and the way he carries himself is very attractive to me. And his chemistry with Buffy is fire.

So sound off BB! Do you think Spike is attractive?

While I can appreciate that James Marsters is a conventionally good-looking man and he definitely has loads of charisma, no, Spike has never been attractive to me.

Probably a combination of personal preferences (I prefer taller guys with bigger frames) and aspects of his character that I find unsavory in later seasons which lessen his overall attractiveness for me.

But I definitely understand why so many fans found him appealing, especially with his "bad boy" swagger back in the early days. Also the accent doesn't hurt either!

I too like taller guys with bigger frames.
Spike? Not really. I don't really find his character appealing in any real sense and now find some of his acting tics quite distracting in a negative way; the pursed mouth, the head-tilt, etc.

JM himself? Sure, he's a good looking guy.

Less so as I get older. The blonde tips dont appeal as much as they once did. Nor does the bad boy bit.

James Marsters with his grey hair - yes, hes quite broad across the shoulders too. Not as slim as he seemed on screen.

I’ve met James and he is SO nice and good looking in person.
I think Marsters is a good looking guy but my attraction to him was more due to the wit and intelligence of the character. He was also totally commanding in a way I've seen few actors pull off. The way he grabbed Drusilla one time and threw her into his arms and stalked away with her - just damn. My inner cavegirl said yesssss. He also has a very nice low speaking voice and he does a lot with it, whereas stoic Angel always sounded like he was stepping on a tack. I am heavily biased for Spuffy however.

Could have wrote this myself! Totally agree.
Objectively I can see that James Marsters is handsome (and seems like a sweetie), and when JM has his natural hair and lets it grow a bit longer, and curly, I do find him a lot more appealing. So… it might be the bleach…

But, no, Spike was never appealing to me in the attraction way. He just isn’t my type.

I generally can’t stand that character type. I thought Ian Somerhalder was really hot pre-Vampire Diaries. Then I saw that show and now I just go ”ugh” whenever I see him, cause I think ”Damon”.

So, is the actor attractive? Yes
Is the character attractive? No

As a straight male Spike never did it for me. I thought he was a good looking guy, but, his look always seemed a bit off.

The gait, the constant leering, the offness of his face. Always thoight there was something just off about him.

Then we get in to his emaciated looks in the later seasons. I really felt sorry for Marsters. It seems that he was under the same pressure as the actresses.

I admit to being surprised that the Nos are outweighing the Yeses. I thought there would be a stronger element of "Yes, but..." as in Spike is physically attractive but his behaviour is not. But perhaps his abusive behaviour is making more than I expected finding him unattractive overall.

Well I don't think there will be any surprise to find out I don't. In any way.

There is no appeal for me of Spike's looks, manner or personality.
And the nature of his hair does not attract me as I usually prefer brunettes.

JM is objectively a good looking man (a bit on the slimmer side for my taste) but not someone I could look twice at in real life. Just never did it for me even when his hair was darker.

However I can completely acknowledge that plenty think he is gorgeous as the character and the actor.

We all have our taste and it's a wonderful thing that it can be so vastly different from others.

I will note that I find William more attractive than Spike. Similar looks - of course - though more endearingly geeky. And a nicer personalty.

Cecily has a lot to answer for.

Oh nooo not William. No, thats a hard No. Nope, a mummies boy is not for me. Spike beats William.

Mummy's boy or devoted son? Where do we draw the line? 😀

Though whatever my feelings on the former, I still prefer that personality to serial abuser!
