I'm a rock chic at heart but...

I appreciate the power houses that are Whitney, Mariah and Christina. I like Leanne Rimes & Rat Pack music, along with Elvis & Christmas music obviously!!

What about you? What do people NOT expect from you that you like or love?

(thanks for the thread inspiration @wolfheart )

Awesome topic. Always need to hear new music! I love country as well, especially older
Lots and lots, i am sure. I love music from nearly every part of the world... (This set is mostly Latin America)

This first one is Misa Criolla by Ariel Ramirez

The late treasure Victor Jara

One of my favourite songs in any language - used to go to sleep to this Agua by Djavan

I've surprised many in different ways. Some are shocked that I listened to Liszt and Chopin (and know trivia about them). Others when they catch me listening to country (and occasionally other genres like jazz). Still others are surprised when they find I'm a fan of darkwave bands. It depends on who it is and how they know me.

Yeah do share please
I mostly like old country like Dolly, Tanya Tucker, Willie Nelson, among others. More recent are Gretchen Wilson and Martina McBride. I'll still listen to modern country, rarely, and like some of what I hear, but I listen to the classic country music stations when I have the choice. My extended family has vast collections of country records, cassettes, and cd. Heck, I believe one still has an 8-track player, though I don't know if he still does as he was having trouble with it and the tapes it played.

(I'm tempted to share The Highwaymen, a song featuring reincarnation, as it matches my mood right now, particularly as I've been contemplating multiple people close to me dying in the last 10 years. But it wouldn't be what I normally would pick, though I do like it. I'm too undecided here.)

A few darkwave bands include The Last Dance, Bella Morte, Sisters of Mercy, Switchblade Symphony, and, of course, the Cure. I think Dolly could've made good darkwave music if she tried, her songs could be haunting enough. Anyway, my melancholic mood has inspired me to share one here:

Still on the melancholic part I suppose, but here's Nocturne by Chopin:

Getting to something odder, there is this song (not sure of its genre, but I think it came out in 1969, over a decade before I was born), and the vid I often watch it to:

There is this that was part of a soundtrack to a western animation, but the song haunted me for a time when I first heard it, got into my head, and helped me to resolve some issues (that had nothing to do with the show and thus not intended by the song), so in honor of that I'll share this "wild card" music, and how I could see it mystifying that this song left such an impression on me:

And as another odd one, I was shopping last month when I heard a song that enchanted me. It was mostly the music of it and the voice, more than the lyrics, though some lyrics did interest me a lot. I paused to listen and commit the chorus to memory so I could look it up when I got home. It turned out to be a song of a one night stand which in of itself didn't mean much to me (and would surprise many that I like it so much), but the overall sound and music of it has gotten me to listen to it a lot so that I even looked it up this morning. And that is:

My daughter is a massive RWBY fan
I'm mostly into really heavy music, but I've fallen in love with this song and performance.

Great music with amusing closed captioning mistakes. Maybe death metal followers automatically like death folk music.
Love me some metal. Nobody expects it because I also love somee Ariana Grande.

Listen to everything except for some country. Which I’m okay with it as long as it isn’t about beer, girls, and horses..oh wait-

I listen to a wide range of music, from odd ball stuff like jacques brel is alive and well and living in paris (a GREAT album, btw) to the pretty in pink soundtrack. i like thomas newman's movie stuff a lot, esp. white oleander - haunting stuff. when i was young i was very much into nirvana and aic and all things "grunge". and i loved me some jane's addiction - saw them in concert and enjoyed it. i adore Christmas music and like classical. i used to be very into kate bush but listen to her stuff less now. i will always adore the 80s. once in awhile i visit the 70s, too. i will basically listen to anything but do not like country, rap, or metal much, with a few exceptions - dolly parton and johnny cash and ozzy osbourne i did like. there's my tiny ee cummings paragraph
